Q: How did you decide on your undergraduate course of study?
A: Interest and strength in math and wanted to study something with more applications in the real world. Wanted both a specialised skill set and an understanding of how the business world functioned, so did both Stats and Business.
Q: In retrospect, what did you think were the most useful lessons/ skills/ knowledge you'd gained from your undergraduate education?
A: Hands-on exercises using various statistical tools and deep focus on theories/ concepts as well, especially through the final year project. Marketing and management lessons were fun and seeing theories in action through discussions/ projects on Harvard Business Review cases. International exchange in an overseas environment allowed me to see how experiential learning was useful in education.
Q: How has your undergraduate education influenced your career choice?
A: Decided to pursue something that would allow me to apply what I had learnt in school and hence that career would be something that provides me the opportunities to analyse data extensively.
Q: Briefly describe your current job scope.
A: Data mining/ modelling. Trying to find meaningful patterns from data.
Q: To what extent is your current job related to your undergraduate course of study?
A: Totally related - I acquired the skills required to perform the job through my undergraduate education/ The course was a pre-requisite for my job.
Q: What are some additional areas you wish your undergraduate education could have covered?
A: More career advice, be it from alumni or conferences, pushed to students, as it could sometimes be challenging to actively seek them.
