DATA DOUBLE CONFIRM

Singapore Traffic Updates

Traffic Updates, Road Closures & Road Works in Singapore are published on LTA OneMotoring website. To understand the traffic conditions in Singapore, data is scraped on a 2-hour interval. A one-hour interval was initially used but there are not many new records being added every hour and hence every two hour will suffice. The Python code on how to scrape the data can be found here: https://github.com/hxchua/datadoubleconfirm/blob/master/notebooks/traffic_updates.ipynb

We can see that heavy traffic mostly occurs between 7-8am and from 5-7pm (which is logical as these timings coincide with people rushing to work/ school or people leaving work for home). If you were to compare the traffic situation in Singapore with that of other countries, you might find other countries seeing very long periods of heavy traffic. Also, there are a lot of roadworks in general happening on off-peaks timings - which reflects good planning to ensure that traffic is not impacted by roadworks.

Data points collected and shown in the charts were 16/05/24 09:35 till 26/05/24 14:55.

As you can see, one of the challenges in an analytics project is presenting your findings to bring across the message you want. The two charts are representations of the same dataset but you can see that you get different information from the visualizations.
